Senedd Candidate for Cardiff South & Penarth Cllr Leighton Rowlands has formally objected to the proposal to 30 build flats on the Rumney Conservative Club. In a letter to Cardiff Council planning department Leighton stated that
"The impact this development will have on the surrounding area and the loss of privacy to neighbouring residents. It is to my understanding that any development must not have adverse effect on neighbouring properties I feel along with the local residents this does. The size and scale of the site would be an overdevelopment and the design will not be in keeping of the character of the area.
The second point which is of concern is this will have a detrimental effect on parking in the area which will have an knock on effect with traffic issues within the immediately and surrounding area. Surely applications should not cause parking issues or adverse traffic issues to area that is already having problems.
The development will have effect on a protected site at the rear land which is protected by CADW, we should be protecting our green spaces and spaces which are protected by CADW which translate from Welsh as ‘keeping/preserving’ and this Welsh Government body is there to protect our landscapes and heritage sites of Wales.
I therefore hope that the planning committee would be minded to call it in as it an application of public interest and should be discussed in an open forum of councillors."
